Description

APT-4-11-CA1 is a PoE network switch that can function as a LAN extender (repeater) and PoE power supply. It is most commonly used in situations where several network devices (e.g., several IP cameras) need to be connected to a single UTP cable, or when an additional network branch is required.

The device is mounted in an external ABOX-CA1 enclosure with IP68 protection.

The device allows us to power up to 3 PoE receivers using a single UTP cable. In situations where it is not possible to install a new cable or where doing so would involve additional costs, the PoE switch allows us to use the existing cabling.

APT-4-11-CA1 can act as a LAN + PoE extender when the distance between devices exceeds 100m. If it is possible to divide the cable into sections less than 100m long, we can use APT-4-11-CA1 to increase the range without the need for additional power supply, while maintaining full 100Mbps bandwidth.

The built-in LR150 (Long Range 150m) function allows all ports to operate stably up to 150m of UTP at 100Mbps with PoE power. This will enable the installation of cameras without the use of an additional intermediate extender.

Basic applications:

  • as splitter for 3 PoE receivers (IP cameras) powered by a single UTP cable, e.g. installation of additional cameras in place of existing cameras without changing the cabling
  • in cascade connection (series) for connecting several PoE IP devices over distances exceeding 100 m of UTP cable
  • the possibility of local power supply allows to build a complex structure of distribution points in extensive installations

APT-4-11 is designed to cooperate with any network devices, IP cameras and other devices powered by PoE 802.3af/at standard.

The APT (Atte Power Tree) series provides compatibility with IEEE 802.3af/at/bt standards as PoE receivers and IEEE 802.3af/at on all output ports. When a device is connected to output ports 2-4, the receiver is identified and, if it is a PoE-powered device, power is switched on at the port.

The APT switch has the possibility to be powered from an external power supply via an additional screw connector, in which case LAN port 1 is used as a LAN network port (without PoE power supply).

The PoE identification standard, operating status and the available power for the receivers are indicated via LEDs:

  • PWR (red) - power supply
  • L1 ... L4 LEDs (green) - transmission on LAN 1 ... LAN 4 ports
  • LED in RJ45 ports (red) – PoE power supply in the port
  • LED at (red) – identification as a 30W PoE receiver
  • LED bt (red) – identification as a 60W PoE receiver

Key features and functions:

  • can be powered from another PoE switch in 802.3af, 802.3at, 802.3bt or PoE Passive standard (PoE IN port)
  • amplifies and distributes the network signal (fully functional 100Mbps switch)
  • cascaded power supply (one switch powers another)
  • ability to power up to 3 PoE 802.3af/at receivers
  • up to 60W total power when powered from UTP
  • high IP protection rating (IP68)
  • built-in LR150 function increases the maximum transmission distance to 150 metres
  • clear signalling of operating status and identification
  • quick and easy commissioning without configuring parameters
  • wide operating temperature range

APT-4-11-CA1 is mounted in an ABOX-CA1 outdoor enclosure equipped with one M25 cable gland with an insert for four 5 mm diameter cables.

The device is mounted using mounting holes. There is also an option to purchase an additional pole adapter that allows the enclosure to be mounted on a pole.

The device has an IP68 protection rating, making it a solution dedicated for outdoor installation. The enclosure provides full resistance to weather conditions.

ABOX-CA1 housing can be mounted in several ways:

  • by screwing it through the mounting holes to any flat surface
  • using an additional adapter ADD-PMACA1, the module can be mounted on a pole

Installation notes

The total power consumed by the cameras (PoE receivers) connected to the extender must not exceed the power budget offered by the switch powering the entire line:

  • for 802.3af standard it is approximately 13W available on the extender
  • for 802.3at standard it is approx. 25W available on the extender
  • for 802.3bt60 standard it is approx. 51W available on the extender

Take into account IR illuminators - they turn on at night, increasing power consumption significantly.

Also consider the loss in the power cable - this depends on its cross-section, length and the voltage value on the PoE line.
