Description

ETH-2wire-A-SET2 is a set of active converters for Ethernet data and PoE power transmission using 2 wires such as one pair of twisted pair UTP cable. The set allows the installation of cameras or other IP PoE devices in places where it is impossible or uneconomical to replace the existing cabling.

 

Basic applications:

  • installation of VOIP telephones on existing telephone wiring
  • use of existing telephone cable for Ethernet data transmission
  • replacement of an intercom with an IP video intercom

The ETH-2wire-A-TX transmitter is powered from any PoE switch (RJ45 port) and then, using 2 cables, enables bi-directional network communication and powering the ETH-2wire-A-RX2 receiver together with the IP PoE camera. The LAN output port operates under the 802.3af/at/bt standard.

Using a single pair of UTP cable, we can achieve a transmission range of:

  • up to 800m for 10Mbps throughput
  • up to 300m for 100Mbps throughput

The throughput of the 2wire path is set automatically depending on the stability of the connection. A throughput reduced to 10Mbps is signalled by switching on an additional 10M LED at the network connector. This allows quick diagnostics of the connection status.

For cables other than twisted-pair UTP, the maximum range and throughput may differ from those specified. Factors such as the quality of the cable, the number of connectors in the cable run, damage to the insulation and the environmental conditions present at the installation site can affect the actual transmission distance and should be taken into account when designing.

Transmission, bandwidth and voltage control are indicated by LEDs:

  • PWR - The device is powered
  • LED LINK - Signalling transmission between modules
  • LED 10M - Available throughput is 10Mbps
  • LED LV - Low voltage, low voltage (<44V) on the device

The LV LED latches and indicates a voltage drop below 44V DC on the ETH-2wire-A-RX2 receiver. It can be reset by switching off the device and applying power again. Its lighting signals the need to verify that the power supply to the set is correct. A voltage drop below 44V DC may be the cause of unstable operation or will prevent PoE receivers connected to the ETH-2wire-A-RX2 from starting up after restart.

The ETH-2wire-A-TX module has the possibility of being powered from external power supplies via additional POWER screw connectors. For correct power supply to PoE receivers, the voltage must be higher than 44V.

The device has a protection level of IP20, a suitable enclosure (minimum IP44) is required to ensure protection from the elements and condensation.

Thanks to its circular design, the ETH-2wire-A-RX2 allows installation in hard-to-reach places such as electrical flush-mounted boxes.

The ETH-2wire-A-TX is equipped with a universal mounting base that allows mounting in several ways:

  • using the mounting studs on the 10.8 mm grid, which is present in all ABOX enclosures
  • using the mounting studs for 19‘ and 10’ rack adapters
  • by screwing through the additional holes to any flat surface
  • using the additional ADD-TH35 adapter, the module can be mounted on a TH35 rail (DIN)

If the ETH-2wire-A-TX module is used in a small space, it is possible to cut and break the mounting brackets of the base to reduce the dimensions of the module.

 

 

Installation notes

 

  • the throughput and distance values are given for a single pair of UTP wires, in reality they may vary depending on the cable used in the 2wire path
  • the bandwidth of the 2wire path is set automatically depending on the stability of the connection
